Special-release wine to benefit WISE
L’Ecole No 41, a Walla Walla Valley winery owned by Megan ’79 and Martin Clubb has released the 2008 L’Érudite, a premium Walla Walla Valley red wine, with all profits to benefit the Whitman Institute for Scholastic Enrichment (WISE). Whitman College’s first academic building, College Hall, was constructed in 1883 on land donated by Dr. Dorsey Syng Baker. One hundred years later Dr. Baker’s great grandson and Whitman alumnus, Baker Ferguson ’39, founded one of the Walla Walla Valley’s pioneering artisan wineries - L’Ecole No 41. Six generations of Dr. Baker’s heirs graduated from Whitman. They include Ferguson’s daughter Megan Clubb and grandson Riley Baker Clubb ’09, current family owners of L’Ecole who collaborated on naming this wine. They chose L’Érudite “The Scholar” to honor Whitman College and its legacy of broad liberal arts education. This wine is limited, as just 300 cases were bottled. Preliminary demand for L’Érudite, which integrates the signature markings of silky, cedary elegance exemplified in L’Ecole’s Estate Seven Hills Vineyard with the bold fruit and robust tannin structure of Pepper Bridge Vineyard has proven very strong. Due to demand, L’Érudite was first made available to Whitman College alumni and friends mid-March, and will subsequently be released to L’Ecole’s mailing list in early May.
To purchase: www.lecole.com/lerudite, 509.525.0940, e-mail jaime@lecole.com, or visit the winery. Release price: $60/bottle. Case and Wine Club discounts may be applied to purchase.
