Join Whitman College alumni parents and friends as we Paint the Town Whitman Blue and Gold on a Theater Tour of New York City with professor of theater emeritus Jack Freimann.


Our tour will include five nights hotel/double occupancy in the heart of the theater district, two Broadway shows and one Off-Broadway show and a concert on a Houseboat, tours of Radio City Music Hall, Rockefeller Center, the Players Club, the National Arts Club, the legendary Apollo Theater as well as a "Meet the Broadway Artists" talk and visits several New York neighborhoods and Ground Zero.

Cost of the trip is $2700 per person, double occupancy (for single occupancy add $766 to the cost of the program) and includes five nights hotel/double occupancy in the heart of the theater district, two Broadway shows and one Off-Broadway show and a concert, breakfast and some other meals, plus all scheduled admissions/tickets/special events/private meetings/private entertainments/visits, all honoraria/donations/gratuities, all tour guide and tour director services, all planning and administrative costs and fees. (Not inclusive of air fare to/from New York). A deposit of $1,000 is due April 1, 2005 and balance is due August 1, 2005.

Tuesday, October 18
Arrival in New York. Check in at the Novotel. Short walking tour to restaurant. Welcoming dinner in a theater district restaurant with opening lecture by professor of theater, Jack Freimann.

Wednesday, October 19
See Central Park. Tour Theater Collection of costumes, set models and memorabilia, hosted by collection�s curator. Informal discussion with curator and Jack Friemann. Bus Tour of Upper East Side and Museum Mile. Free afternoon for lunch and to explore museums. In the evening, group will see a Broadway show.

Thursday, October 20
Meet at Radio City Music Hall, after lunch of your choice, for a walking tour of Rockefeller Center. Afterwards, a private tour of Radio City Music Hall and meeting with the creative producer of the Rockettes. The evening event is an Off Broadway show with post-performance walking tour.

Friday, October 21
Morning coach tour of 42nd Street and Madison Square Park, includes a visit to the Players, the theater world�s most prestigious private club. We will visit the club�s research library and meet with the library director. Then, we travel to the National Arts Club, one of the art world�s most prestigious private cultural clubs, located in a Victorian townhouse (used in the filming of the Age of Innocence). Our visit includes lunch at the club (Dress is jacket and tie for men; smart casual for women), a visit to its galleries and art exhibitions and a lecture with Jack Freimann. Then we return to our hotel for dinner on your own. Meet in the lobby for the evening performance of Broadway Show.

Saturday, October 22
'Meet the Broadway Artists.' We will visit a rehearsal hall for private entertainment with two cast members from two hit Broadway musicals, including at least one of the musicals on the tour. Discussion led by Jack Freimann. Afterwards, we will have a short tour of Ground Zero and have a first hand exploration of New York's recovery efforts from a tragedy that shook the world. Lunch on your own in the area.

We then travel by coach to Brooklyn for a walking tour and dinner on your own. After dinner, our group will attend a concert on private houseboat with dramatic view of Manhattan Skyline. Followed by meeting with the 80-year old houseboat owner, a well-established violinist who presents this successful series of classical concerts featuring the finest of New York's young musicians.

Sunday, October 23
Apollo Theater for a behind the scenes tour with the Soul of Harlem's Apollo Theater. This will be followed by an architectural and cultural coach/walking tour of Harlem. We will gather for our farewell, family-style lunch in Harlem restaurant. Guests departing from Newark will be transferred by bus to the airport. Guests departing JFK or LGA will transfer to the airport via private car service at their own expense.
