Whitman Online Terms of Service
TERMS AND CONDITIONS
The Whitman College Online Community is provided by the Alumni Association and the College, and is designed to facilitate communication among community members for personal or College-related purposes. The definition of ‘community member’ for purposes of this Terms of Service include, but are not limited to, alumni, non-graduate former students, faculty, staff, and students granted access for purposes of career networking and alumni non-financial support.
I. PRIVACY AND SECURITY
The College and Alumni Association have not, do not and will never, sell alumni information to anyone. All alumni information is strictly guarded for use by individual community members and the College for personal and College-related purposes only.
The Alumni Association has taken all reasonable precautions to secure the personal information available through the Online community. The Whitman College Online Community is password protected to allow access by registered community members only. Although this precaution should effectively protect any personal information available through the Whitman College Online Community from abuse or outside interference, a certain degree of privacy risk is faced any time information is shared over the Internet. Therefore, through the Online Directory feature of the Whitman College Online Community, you have the ability to hide your information from being viewed by other community members.
II. POLICY AND GUIDELINES FOR PROPER USE
To safeguard the operation of the Whitman College Online Community, the Alumni Association has adopted many guidelines and policies that are used by the College to govern conduct, particularly conduct that occurs in an Online environment.
In addition to the College's policies and guidelines, users of the Whitman College Online Community must abide by the following specific rules and regulations:
- Unauthorized copying, reproduction, republishing, uploading, downloading, posting, transmitting or duplicating of any material in or on the Whitman College Online Community is prohibited. You may download or copy any downloadable materials displayed on the Whitman College Online Community for home, non-commercial and personal use only; provided, however, that you maintain all copyright, trademark and other notices contained in such material and you agree to abide by all additional copyright notices or restrictions contained in any material accessed through the Whitman College Online Community.
- Use of information in or communications available through the Whitman College Online Community for any commercial, public or political purposes is strictly prohibited. Prohibited activities include, but are not limited to, solicitations for commercial services, cold-calling of any kind or mass-mailings for commercial purposes. Information available through the Whitman College Online Community may be used for personal or College-related purposes only.
- Users shall not restrict nor inhibit any other user from enjoying any service on the Whitman College Online Community. Posting of obscene materials or use of obscene language, posting of vulgar materials, or use of vulgar language, or use of abusive, defamatory, profane or threatening language of any kind, will constitute a violation of these policies governing the use of the Whitman College Online Community. Additionally, users shall not upload, transmit, distribute or otherwise publish any materials containing a virus or any other harmful component.
- All aliases adopted by Whitman College Online Community users are subject to approval by the College and/or the Alumni Association to ensure that the proper image is associated with the institution.
Neither the College nor the Alumni Association is responsible for screening communications in advance, and neither the College nor the Alumni Association will actively monitor the use of the Whitman College Online Community. For this reason, it is essential that the users of the Whitman College Online Community report any abuses or misuse of the Whitman College Online Community to the Alumni Association or College. If the Alumni Association or College determines that a user's participation in the Whitman College Online Community creates a liability for the Alumni Association or the College or that the user has violated the policies set forth herein, the Alumni Association reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to take actions against the user. The Alumni Association and/or College reserves the right to expel a user and deny a user further access to the Whitman College Online Community if such user violates these policies or any applicable laws or regulations.
III. LIMITATION OF LIABILITY AND INDEMNITY
The reliability of the information in or availability through the Whitman College Online Community is largely dependent upon the actions of Community registrants. Neither the Alumni Association, College, nor IModules Software, the application service provider hosting the Online Community ("IMODULES"), makes any representation, express or implied, about the accuracy, reliability, completeness or timeliness of this information.
Although no online data transmissions can be 100% guaranteed secure, IMODULES's online security is consistent with online industry security requirements and access to your password is protected to further ensure your privacy. You should take your own precautions to keep your ID and password confidential and secure, and notify us immediately if you believe unauthorized access to your account has occurred, or your ID or password has been compromised. Given the rapid rate of development of technological threats to privacy, information security and Internet activities, we cannot and will not be liable for security breaches beyond our control. No one can guarantee the security of your information under all circumstances. But working with you to take care to protect your information using the most accepted business practices, together you and we can keep your information as safe as possible.
To secure your information, access to your information on the site is protected by unique password, and credit card information (if applicable) is protected by SSL encryption when it is transmitted between your browser and the site. To protect your information you place on the site, we take the additional precautions of continually conducting audits of our systems against potential vulnerabilities.
For additional security, IMODULES has in place physical, electronic and procedural safeguards to store and maintain your information. To assist in this effort, you may be required to use a password to access certain pages on the site where portions of your information can be changed or deleted. Therefore, please be sure to protect against unauthorized access to your password, to emails from us, and to your computer.
The Alumni Association, College and IMODULES do not warrant that the Whitman College Online Community web site will operate error-free or that the site and its server are free of computer viruses or other harmful material. To the fullest extent permitted by law, the Alumni Association, the College and IMODULES disclaim all warranties, including the warranties of merchantability, non-infringement and fitness for particular purpose. In no event shall the Alumni Association, the College or IMODULES be liable for any damages whatsoever, including without limitation, incidental, consequential or punitive damages resulting from the use of or inability to use information or materials available on the Whitman College Online Community web site. IMODULES cannot and will not be responsible for any activity of a school, association or organization that results in a deviation from IMODULES’s standard security measures. The Alumni Association, College and IMODULES are not responsible for your use or inability to use the site.
Participation in the Whitman College Online Community is a privilege.
