What do Whitman graduates do?
Over 60% of Whitman College students continue their education in various graduate school programs throughout the nation and world. Whitman alumni become doctors, lawyers, scientists, educators and business women and men. Most are active, engaged members of their professional and living communities. Further, Whitman was recently selected by The Washington Monthly as one of the top colleges in the nation for the percentage of its graduates that pursue public service opportunities, such as Peace Corps, Teach America, and Foreign Service.
The Chronicle of Higher Education has recognized Whitman as one of the top producers of Fulbright fellowship recipients. Ten Whitman graduates received these prestigious international research and study grants in 2007, an extraordinary number for any institution, especially a smaller liberal arts college. Two current students and two recent graduates were four of only 57 undergraduates nationally to receive Humanity in Action diversity fellowship awards in 2007. Other recent awards include Rhodes, Watson, Truman, Udall, Beinecke, Trudeau, and National Science Foundation scholarships. Such academic recognition is the norm at Whitman.
