Whitman's comprehensive student budget includes tuition, student government fees, standard room (assuming double occupancy), board, and an amount for books and incidental expenses.
The amount for books and incidental expenses is determined by surveying students every couple of years. Many of the expenses that students incur at other colleges and universities such as charges for using the washers and dryers in the residence halls, concerts, lectures, plays etc., are covered by the student government fees and room charges.
A large percentage of Whitman's students receive some form of financial aid, thus reducing the overall costs of a Whitman education.
Summary of Charges
|ASWC (student association)||$360|
|Room and Board||$11,228|
|Estimated Books and supplies||$1,400|
*Students without insurance must purchase coverage from a health exchange or Whitman's health insurance policy. Whitman's health insurance plan costs $1,915.41 for the 2014-15 school year.
*If a student's financial aid already equals their total budget (cost of attendance), they may request that we increase their budget for the purchase of a computer. This will sometimes allow them to borrow additional loan. This will not increase the amount of Whitman Scholarship they receive.
