CLIMBING CENTER MANAGER:
POSITION PURPOSE
The Whitman Outdoor Program fosters personal growth, facilitates learning and creates recreational opportunities through leadership development, skills training and safe, environmentally sound trips in a supportive community. Seven programmatic areas exist to fulfill this mission: Scrambles, SSRA classes, the climbing center, rental shop, special events, trainings, and the trip program. The Climbing Center Equipment Manager works with the program director to oversee the Climbing Center.
PRINCIPLE ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Must understand and represent the mission and vision of the Whitman College Outdoor Program and Climbing Center.
- Meet with Outdoor Program Director weekly at minimum
- Work with Program Director to hire and oversee all Climbing Center staff, especially desk staff
- Oversee day-to-day tasks at the Climbing Center related to: paperwork, Rock Gym Pro, special scheduling and events, purchasing/maintaining office supplies
- Build desk staff and instructional staff schedules for each semester.
- Coordinate new employee hiring (facility/computer access, communicating with Paul Dennis, etc.)
- Manage clinic sign-ups on googledocs
- Perform weekly or bi-monthly deposits and JE tax into the appropriate account at the end of each month
- Work with Climbing Center Equipment Manager and Outdoor Program Director to lead beginning-of-semester staff training.

- Perform additional tasks as appropriate in carrying out the duties of the position.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Able to lift at least 50 lbs
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Organized
- Able to multi-task, independent, self-motivated and high-energy
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Able to creatively/critically assess the climbing center and brainstorm ways to improve it
DESIRED EXPERIENCE
- One semester spent working as a climbing center staff (preferably at the desk)
- Familiarity with computer programs such as Microsoft word, Microsoft excel, power-point and Googledocs
