AAUW Selected Professions Fellowship

National deadline:  January 10, 2014, 5:00 p.m. CST for application

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Women who are U.S. citizens or permanent residents
  • Academic excellence
  • Women who are currently pursuing or intend to pursue a master's degree in the fields of architecture, computer science, engineering, mathematics or statistics.
  • In the fields of business administration, law and medicine, the fellowship is only open to women who are ethnic minorities.

Award summary and benefits: American Association of University Women (AAUW) Selected Professions Fellowships are awarded to women who intend to pursue a full-time course of study at accredited U.S. institutions during the fellowship year in one of the designated degree programs where women's participation traditionally has been low. Awards range from $5,000 to $18,000 and requests that do not fall within this stipend range will be ineligible. Stipends are awarded in two equal payments. These fellowships fund academic and living expenses for a period of 12 months while a fellow pursues full time study. The fellowships do not fund:

  • Research equipment, research assistants and similar costs
  • Publication costs
  • Travel to professional meetings, conferences or seminars
  • Repayment of loans or other personal obligations
  • Institutional (overhead) costs
  • Tuition for dependent's education*
    • *Fellowship funds may be used for dependent care if essential in facilitating the candidate's pursuit of her educational study or research

Hard copy components:

  • Official transcripts of postsecondary academic work from all institutions where degrees were earned as well as an official transcript for graduate work currently in progress.
  • For architecture students only: Two bound sets of reproductions demonstrating a range of the applicant's design projects; 10-12 samples may be submitted in the portfolio, no larger than 8" x 10" in size.
  • For law students only: A sample of legal writing.
  • Filing Fee $35 (nonrefundable)
