Originally from Erie, PA, Diane Gray-Chamberlain has been fortunate to have taught and performed in various parts of the country. She earned a Bachelor of Music in Voice Performance at Wichita State University in Wichita KS., and a Master of Arts in Teaching from Walla Walla University. For over eighteen years, Gray- Chamberlain has sung with professional opera companies and toured as soprano soloist for various symphonies and opera companies across the United States and in Japan. During the past fourteen years, Gray-Chamberlain has enjoyed teaching students of various ages in the Walla Walla Valley. She has been a church choir director, a K-5 general music teacher, a middle school choir teacher for the Walla Walla Public Schools, and currently has a successful private voice studio as well as teaches Voice for the Whitman College Music Department.
Gray-Chamberlain has performed with Opera Memphis, Southern Opera Touring Co., Indianapolis Opera Co., and Nashville Opera Co. Performance brought Diane to the Northwest where she has been featured soprano soloist with the Walla Walla Symphony, Whitman College Master Singers, Washington East Opera, Mid- Columbia Symphony, Consort Columbia, Walla Walla Chorale Society, Little Theater of Walla Walla, and Walla Walla Ampitheater Summer Musicals. Some favorite operatic/musical theater roles performed include: Papagena and First Lady, in The Magic Flute, Frasquita, in Carmen, Sr. Constance and Blanche in Dialogues of the Carmelites, Mabel in Pirates of Penzance, Aldonza and Antonia in Man of La Mancha, Despina in Cosi Fan Tutte, Susanna, in The Marriage of Figaro, Mimi and Musetta in La Boheme, The Mother in Amahl and the Night Visitors, Geraldine in A Hand of Bridge, Lola in Gallentry, Eliza in My Fair Lady, and Laurie in Oklahoma. Oratorio performances include solo work in The Messiah, Elijah, and St. Matthew's Passion, to name a few. A highlight of Ms. Gray-Chamberlain's performing career was the invitation to represent the City of Walla Walla by singing a special Sister City 30th Anniversary Concert in Sasayama, Japan in 2002.
