Latin American Studies Department Profile
Latin America has for many years been a bellwether of international change, from the revolutions of the 1960s to the neoliberalism of the 1980s and 1990s, and the 21st-century turn to a new electoral progressivism. This fascinating and diverse region stretches from Mexico to Chile, including eighteen Spanish-speaking countries and Brazil. Although not required, students studying Latin American Studies are encouraged to enroll in approved Study Abroad programs to Latin American countries. Students may also be interested in living in La Casa Hispana, with its resident native speaker, and participating in Club Latino, both of which provide cultural programming and activities.
