German Program Learning Goals

Program learning goals: The primary learning goal of the German program is to enable students to understand, interpret and critique the culture of the German-speaking world. Components of this goal will help students acquire:

  • a basic understanding of the fundamentals of the culture, literature and history of the German-speaking world;
  • the conceptual skills necessary to navigate through German culture and engage in research with German-language materials; and
  • the ability to convey their understanding of German culture in both English and German, relying on good evidence and sound reasoning. (They will be able to demonstrate this ability to analyze and synthesize orally and in writing.)
