General

Sherwood Center, Baker Ferguson Fitness Center, and Harvey Pool - Work out, shoot hoops, swim, play racquet ball or squash, and use the sauna.  Summer hours will be in effect.  Check out facility dates and times by May 15.

Whitman College Bookstore - Purchase insignia clothing, candy and chocolates, magazines and books, cards, and last-minute gifts.  Open 9am-5:30 p.m. on May 16, 17, and 18, and open 9am-5pm on May 19.  (Reid Campus Center basement)

11:00 a.m. - Lux Aeterna: A Concert and Discussion with Honorary Degree Recipient Morten Lauridsen '65 - Following a talk by composer Morten Lauridsen '65, the Whitman College Chorale will perform Lux Aeterna, one of Lauridsen's most popular choral works set to Latin texts about light. (Cordiner Hall)

11:00 a.m. - Economics Department Reception and Toast for Seniors and Families - The Economics Department celebrates the graduation of Economics, Economics-Environmental Studies, and Economics-Mathematics students.  (Jan Crouter's House: 535 Boyer Ave.)

11:00 a.m. - Sociology Department Champagne Toast - Graduating seniors and their families are invited to a Sociology department reception at the home of Keith Farrington and Nancy Tavelli. (709 University Street).

1:00 p.m. - Intercultural Center Open House - Graduating seniors and their families are welcome to attend. This event will congratulate and thank seniors involved with the Intercultural Center, Glover Aston Center, and other diversity initiatives on campus. (Glover Alston Center)

1:00 p.m. - Geology Department Open House - Meet Geology department faculty and view a slideshow.  (Hall of Science, Atrium and Room 151)

1:00 p.m. - Sheehan Gallery Friends & Family Reception.  Please join with the Sheehan Gallery in recognizing the 2013 Senior Studio Art Majors. This event will be held from 1:00-3:00pm in two locations. (The Sheehan Gallery and the Fout's Center for the Visual Arts Critique Space, room 101)

1:30 p.m. - Schwa Final Concert - Whitman's premiere co-ed a cappella group, will be performing a variety of contemporary pop songs, as well as original compositions and arrangments.  Schwa welcomes all friends and families to come celebrate our last concert of the year. (Olin 130)

2:30 p.m. - Baccalaureate Ceremony - This ceremony offers graduating seniors and their families an opportunity to reflect on time spent at Whitman and look ahead to new opportunities. (Cordiner Hall)

4:00 p.m. - From Monty Python to Spamalot: A Discussion with Eric Idle - An opportunity to meet Eric Idle our 2013 Commencement Speaker up close and personal. English comedian, actor, author, singer, writer and composer Eric Idle will discuss his career and take questions from the audience.  Booksigning to follow. (Cordiner Hall)

5:30 p.m. - Reception for English Seniors - This is a reception for English Seniors and their friends and family and English Department Faculty. Sponsored by the English Department. (Olin Hall Faculty lounge, 1st floor of Olin)

8:00 a.m. - Seating Opens for Commencement - Parents, families and friends attending Commencement may claim seats in open seating section on the south lawn of Memorial starting at 8:00 a.m. So that everyone can enjoy the ceremony, please only hold the number of seats your party will need. Community members are encouraged to sit in the bleachers to allow parents and families an opportunity to sit closer to their grads.  (Memorial Building South Lawn)

11:00 a.m. - Whitman College Commencement Ceremony - The closing ceremony of the academic year includes the conferring of diplomas, honorary degrees, and awards.  Commencement address by Eric Idle.  The ceremony will run until approximately 1:00 p.m. (Memorial Building South Lawn)

1:00 p.m. - Post-Commencement Luncheon - A light luncheon for grads and their families, faculty, and staff following the Commencement ceremony.  In case of rain, lunch will be relocated to the Sherwood Center. Happy graduation, everyone!  (Memorial Building North Lawn, near Penrose Library)

1:00 p.m. - Final Walkthrough for Senior Studio Art Majors.  Following graduation, please join with the Sheehan Gallery  for a final walk through of the 2013 Senior Studio Art Majors' Exhibition. This event will be held until 4:00pm in two locations. (The Sheehan Gallery and the Fout's Center for the Visual Arts Critique Space, room 101)
